CarlsArt
CarlsArt was
founded by owner and artist Carl Johnson. Carl has extensive
experience in not only digital 2D and 3D art, but is also an award
winning traditional artist with over 300 original works to his name.
Carl has recently exhibited his traditional and digital works at
Great Island Gallery in Cape Cod, Massachusetts.
Carl's background
includes over 15 years in the corporate IT field as a senior systems
administrator for a mid-sized computer manufacturer, providing complex
problem resolution for the Engineering and Customer Service departments.
Although this provided much needed intellectual stimulation, not
to mention a comfortable living, Carl has always
felt that there was something missing. His true passion has always
been related to art, and using computers for art and animation.
Since the first Apple II computer came out in the late 70's, Carl
has been a pioneer in the field of computer art, as a serious hobby.
He produced his very first animation at the age of 16, using an
Apple II, and a 8mm camera set to record single frames off the computer
screen.
In 1999, Carl
decided that corporate life was simply not for him. Since then,
Carl founded CompuGODs.com, a computer consultation and
web design firm, specializing in web design, Internet marketing
consultation, Photoshop instruction, and 3D design/illustration.
In taking on
some 3D jobs, Carl realized the difficulty in obtaining high-quality,
high-resolution textures. Carl would spend an excess amount of time
developing custom textures by hand in Photoshop, which suited the
job at hand while being up to his very high standards of quality.
This
experience planted a seed, which months later would come to fruition
in the form of CarlsArt.com, a company providing other 3D artists
access to the very high-resolution textures Carl found it so difficult
to procure online, thus helping other artists achieve a new level
of hyper-realism and quality, while saving countless hours and hundreds
or thousands of dollars attempting to procure textures online which
are of limited resolution and quality.
After months
of focused, full-time effort, the first CD was finally completed.
Each texture was photographed by Carl, meticulously hand-tiled.
All the bump maps were hand created, and tested and tweaked until
perfect.
Carl is now
working on future CDs, including Sci-fi, Fantasy, and Industrial
textures, Nature and Organic, Skies and Backgrounds, Woods and Interiors,
and more.
Carl answers
all mail personally, and loves to hear from aspiring 3D artists.
